Autumn 2021 News

We are back!

After so many months without live, in-person events, we were delighted to welcome audiences back to the wide range of productions we produced and were involved with across July, August, and September.

Auditions

We are always keen to expand and diversify our talent pool and see what new and exciting performers we can include for future events; so we kicked our summer off by holding auditions in July with a second day in September. This was an opportunity for us to meet a range of artists who are currently working across Northern Ireland. The standard of auditions was exceptionally high and we were excited to be able to incorporate some of the performers we met into our Summer delivery of productions and events.

We would like to thank all those who came along on the day to audition!

It’s not too late to register with us although we won’t be auditioning again until 2022, if interested please get in touch by completing our talent form.

Theatre at the Mill – Summer Music Spectacular

We were delighted to return to Theatre at the Mill on the 6th and 7th August for our ‘Summer Music Spectacular’. Peter was joined by a number of past performers from the youth summer musical theatre scheme he directed at the Theatre. Since these productions 11 years ago, there have been a great number of those young performers who have subsequently gone on to be professionals in the dance, theatre and film industries. To celebrate the legacy of the course and the venue, Peter was excited to invite a number of these performers back to perform alongside him. These included actors, singers, musicians, a ballet dancer and an opera singer who are all currently working all across the world (from Switzerland and Poland, to Qatar!).

As the first performance back indoors, it was extremely significant to have shared it with all the wonderful performers who came back to join us.

Thank you to all the staff at Theatre at the Mill who made us feel so welcome and supported us during the shows. With such positive audience feedback, we were ecstatic to have gotten back into a venue and do what we do best!

Sunday in the Park with Peter – Crawfordsburn Country Park

Sunday 22nd August we were excited to welcome audiences to our outdoor concert event – ‘Sunday in the Park with Peter – Starring Peter Corry, Band and Special Guests’ at Crawfordsburn Country Park. While entirely outdoors, the venue allowed us to offer overhead coverage in case of rain (which luckily was not needed!).

The event featured a range of instrumental pieces from the band, including both traditional and classical, a mix of solos and duets from Peter and special guests Ciara Power and Matthew Campbell, with a long overdue catch up with those in the audience.

We were delighted with how many people attended and, even with Covid-19 procedures still in place, audiences were eager for the return of live performances.

A massive thank you for all in attendance for coming along and we look forward to welcoming you back at future events – long may it continue!

Stones In His Pockets

Choreographer Fleur Mellor was back in the studio rehearsing with ’Stones In His Pockets’ with actors Gerard McCabe & Shaun Blaney.

Directed by Matthew McElhinney, this production was produced by The Barn Theatre, Cirencester, to celebrate 25 years of this award-winning play by Marie Jones. With a fresh remounting and new aspects of the writing realised through film & projection, Fleur was brought in to assist in movement direction and create a showstopping number for the production.

Virtual Offering

Despite the reopening of venues, we are still thrilled to have hosted numerous online events throughout the summer. Highlights have included a Virtual Online Festival for Allen and Overy and The SHS Big Game Show!

Throughout the summer we have continued delivering our ‘Big Night In!’ in partnership with Callow Events. This hour-long online TV gameplay brings you the best from your favourite classic game shows; Catchphrase, Who Wants to Be A Millionaire and Countdown but to name a few! To find out more about the Big Night In and what we can offer to companies, visit Our Virtual Events Page.

Back in Bangor – Ards and North Down Council

On Saturday 21st August we provided over 200 performers for ‘Back in Bangor’; run by the Ards and North Down Council. This was inspired by our 2020 Christmas event ‘Window Wonderland’. Despite some wet weather, our performers entertained crowds in Bangor from 12pm to 6pm with bite sized performances that occurred every 20-30 minutes.

Partnering with Ards and North Down Council for the event, the programming was designed to help boost footfall in retailers across the town centre while also providing entertainment to the public in a Covid-safe way. From a bathing belle to a singing trawler man, we helped animate the Bangor High Street by placing performers in shop windows. We provided an aerial stage space that saw performers flying high over the waterline of the Marina and in addition to this, we also provided entertainment for 3 separate stages along the Bangor Marina. This featured groups such as Bangor Ukes, Festival Brass, The Victory Rollers, Real Princesses NI, and Belfast School of Performing Arts. It was also an opportunity for us to reunite our ‘The Showman is Coming’ cast who hadn’t performed together since March 2020. Peter and the cast performed excerpts from ‘The Showman is Coming’ which toured across the Island of Ireland in 2019 and 2020. We also saw the debut of our nautical-themed boy band – The Shanty Boys.

We have received great feedback from the event and would like to thank Ards and North Down Council for all their hard work in pulling the event together and giving us the opportunity to provide so many incredible performers.

Maritime Mile – Belfast City Council

On the 4th and 5th September, we provided performers for Belfast City Council’s event – Maritime Mile. Taking place along the iconic Belfast Waterfront and Maritime Mile; from Sailortown, City Quays, Donegal Quay to Queen’s Quay and into Titanic quarter. Belfast City Council delivered a safe and enjoyable programme of activity that celebrates Belfast’s rich Maritime heritage and the amazing assets that are along the Maritime Mile.

One of the goals of the events was for families to come down, go on an adventure and walk the Maritime Mile – here they would have encountered our wonderful performers; a storytelling pirate, a ukulele playing mermaid and two newly wed tourists who were excited to get off their cruise ship and explore Belfast!

Our performers entertained the public as they roamed along the Maritime Mile.

A massive thank you to Belfast City Council for having us be part of such an exciting event!

Tide and Turf, Portavogie – Ards and North Down Council

Following the success of ‘Back in Bangor’, Ards and North Down Council asked us to provide some of our Bangor performers for their ‘Tide and Turf’ event in Portavogie on Saturday 11th September. This festival is a celebration of fantastic local produce and a foodie heaven giving the public a chance to pick up delicious treats and meet and great local chefs who were competing to win the ‘Great Peninsula Menu’.

We were delighted to have a return performance from ‘The Shanty Boys’, our singing sailors from Bangor, wonderful aerial performances and of course, our hot booking for the summer, the ukulele playing mermaid!

What’s Next?

Now that summer has come to an end and our mermaid has to go back to the ocean, we are planning for what comes next… As we still await updates on indoor events and restrictions moving forward, we remain optimistic that we will be able to continue delivering exciting and entertaining in-person events and shows!

We look forward to welcoming audiences back to our ‘Christmas at the Cathedral’ event, when we will return to St Anne’s Cathedral Belfast for an evening of Christmas-inspired entertainment that is sure to get everyone in the Christmas spirit!

Make sure to check our social media pages and website for when dates are released for these events.

Let’s all go out to help out

In the meantime, we continue to talk, dream and plan as far as we can about what opportunities we can realise. If anyone would like to talk and dream with us about anything they would like to consider going forward please get in touch.
